Barbara King (sometimes credited as Barbara P. King) is an actress/comedian based in Los Angeles.
Barbara’s passion for acting began as a child, constantly putting on plays for friends and family. Recognizing her talent, Barbara’s parents enrolled her in the Center for the Creative Arts dancing school, where she studied ballet and modern dance. As she grew older she participated in local community theatre and school productions which led to professional radio advertisements for local businesses and a short film for PBS.
Barbara moved to New York City to attend the prestigious acting program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She plunged into the “college experience,” studying internationally, taking a wide variety of courses and was cast as the lead in several productions. She graduated with a BFA in drama and as a Founder’s Day Scholar and the President of the Tisch Undergraduate Student Council.
Theatrically, Barbara has starred in several off-off-broadway productions, including the well-acclaimed New York International Fringe Festival one-woman-show, ‘Rapt Inside’, proving herself as “a name to be looked for in downtown theatre” [nytheatre.com].
Following her theatrical success, Barbara dove into the film/TV side of acting, guest starring in the 2006 season premier of Law & Order. She has also been seen as principal roles in Law & Order SVU, All My Children, As the World Turns, and lead roles in several independent films (available on Netflix) as well as starring in several national commercials.
Recently Barbara made the move to Los Angeles and has been prominent amongst the improv and sketch comedy world. She attends classes at the world-renowned Groundlings program and performs comedy weekly at iO West, Upright Citizens Brigade, Groundlings and Westside Comedy Theater.
In her spare time Barbara practices yoga, enjoys hiking, and teaches. She also volunteers for numerous organizations.
